WHO. (WHEN). WHAT. WHERE.

The format of references to theses/dissertations depends on whether or not the thesis has been published. 

  • Unpublished theses:

Author, A. A. (Year). Title [Unpublished doctoral/master's theses]. Name of Awarding Institution.

  • Published theses:

​Author, A. A. (Year). Title [Doctoral/Master's theses, Name of Awarding Institution]. Database/Archive Name. URL

In-text citations follow the standard (Author, Date) or Author (Date) format.

 

If your source is a thesis that has been published as a book follow the format for a book.
