Research skills in Architecture and Design: Step 2. Using the Library Catalogue for Known Items

A guide for information research skills as an alternative to face to face skills classes, or as a refresher to these classes.

2a. Understanding References

Before using  any library catalogue, you must understand the different types of literature as cited in a reading list or unit outline. The structure of a reference identifies the type of literature you are looking at. Then you can choose the correct search options in the UTAS Library catalogue.

2b. Finding books Using the UTAS Library Catalogue

>> Click on the image of the Library home page below. From the home page, click on the Title link to go to the Title search screen of the library catalogue.

2c. Topic Searching for books using the Library catalogue

The Library catalogue allows searching for topics by either using the General Keyword search option, or by using the Subject Alphabetical/Subject Keyword option.

If you do not retrieve any relevant references in searching for your object, interior design feature, building or structur, try searching for the name of the designer/architect.
