Reading is at the heart of the research process

  • For the purposes of academic study, reading needs to be active, using effective strategies and tools that help efficiently extract the information you need for your assignments, and help organise the thinking and planning throughout the research process.
  • The two most frequently used sources when researching a topic are books/ebooks and journal articles.
  • You need to apply different strategies to reading books and journal articles, together with different research planning and thinking tools, to effectively work through the research process as a reader.
