You might wonder why we’re using CoPilot and GenAI interchangeably throughout this guide. While CoPilot is not the only GenAI out there, it is the one recommended by UTas, and one that we can use our UTas log in credentials for.
It is recommended for two main reasons – when you’re logged in it prioritises your privacy and doesn’t store your chat data (or let it be accessed by other parties!); and it is updated consistently (other tools are using data up to a certain date).
You can head to https://copilot.cloud.microsoft/, and log in using your university email and password. Then construct your prompt, and ask away!
Or access through Edge or Microsoft 365, by logging onto Utas Microsoft and typing CoPilot into the search bar at the top.
At this time, you need to use an acknowledgement at the beginning of any work you’ve used AI in.
Here is a template acknowledgement statement for you to adapt:
I acknowledge the use of [insert the name of the genAI tool and url] to [explain how you have used genAI]. The prompts I used include [list of your prompts]. The output from these prompts was used to [explain how the output from genAI was used in your own work].
If you use GenAI in an approved way, you need to do this acknowledgement and you don’t need to put it in your reference list.
For more information on the required acknowledgement, using CoPilot, or using Generative AI at UTas, head to the student portal page.
