These tools will help you to think about your topic and organise your ideas in a meaningful way

as you work your way through the process of research and reading.

Brainstorming is a thinking strategy that helps you to sort out: 

  • what you already know about the topic
  • the things you need to find out
  • the things you don’t understand
  • questions you ask about the topic that help you clarify what the topic is about.

 

A mind mapping tool helps to visually identify, group and link all the different ideas related to your topic. 

 

A Search Strategy grid is an effective note taking tool that helps you keep a record of the key words, phrases, ideas, and how you've combined them, to find relevant information using search tools.

 

 

A simple reading grid is an effective way to extract important information and take notes as you read. Eg. the key issues, theories, and people. Great for all those weekly readings!!!
 

 

A more complex reading matrix is an excellent tool that helps you to organise your literature by themes. These often become your key points and supporting evidence when you start to write.
