Finding Full-text

I know the exact item I want to find

This requires working sequentially through separate search strategies until one is successful. The following strategies are designed to be attempted in the order in which they are listed.

Click on each of the steps to learn more about them.

1. Copy and paste into Google Scholar

Copy the article title into Google Scholar. Very often Google Scholar includes the link to the full-text of the article.

Note!   This may work better if you change the Google Scholar settings in your browser to display the UTAS links (see Time-saving tools - 3. Google Scholar settings)

2. Use a browser extension

Add one of these extensions to your web browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari):

  • Google Scholar Button
  • LibKey Nomad
  • Unpaywall
  • EndNote Click

They check our subscriptions and/or open access repositories to try find the full-text.

Note!   You first need to set this up (see Time-saving tools - 2. Browser extensions)

3. Break down citation and search library catalogue

The best way to check whether we have access to the full-text of a journal article (or book) is to search for the journal name in the library catalogue. This will tell you whether we have access to the journal, in what format (print or online) and what year range.

4. Document delivery service (postgraduate only)

If full-text isn't available at UTAS, postgraduate students and staff can use the Library's Document Delivery service.

Refer to the Document Delivery webpages for more details of the service.
