Exhibit is the University's Omeka S online exhibition platform for showcasing our digital collections and research.

Site Curator / Project Lead - Role & Responsibilities

Scope

  • Look at published Omeka S sites and become familiar with the look and format

University of Tasmania Exhibit sites 

International Omeka S sites

  • Become familiar with basic website standards which apply to all University websites

Web Services Editorial Style Guide

  • Start familiarising yourself with the Omeka S functionality  
  • Identify collaborators — other UTAS researchers, staff or PhD students
  • Scope your Site

 

Request

 

Plan & Gather

Use the Exhibit Omeka S Site Planner Tool to help you:

  • Gather your item metadata descriptions and media objects
  • Prepare content for Site including narrative text, headings and image captions (See Office of Marketing Editorial Style Guide for guidance on creating web content)
  • Follow the Exhibit Omeka S Hyperlink rules  to link to University research outputs, cultural objects and reputable web content for in-text hyperlinks
  • Tell the Site story - organise individual pages under section headings to create a logical narrative sequence
  • Request and obtain a copyright licence from owners of all copyright or proprietary materials you plan to use in your Site (See Copyright & Permission)

 

Build

  • Follow the UTAS Exhibit Omeka S User Guide to build your site
  • Keep the Site in private mode until launch
  • Request training and/or assistance as required from Exhibit.Online@utas.edu.au
  • Arrange for internal expert editors to review your Site
  • Supervise students who assist in building the Site

 

Review and Publish

  • Send finished Site to Exhibit.Online@utas.edu.au for review prior to publishing
  • Implement communication strategy for Site, which may include contacting the University Media & Communications team
  • Configure Sharing buttons on the Site to share and promote via Social Media

 

Maintain

  • Review Site regularly to maintain hyperlinks and content
  • Respond to community feedback and be the point of contact for Site enquiries
  • Respond to any copyright issues concerning Site content
  • Organise transfer of curatorial responsibilities to a School/ Faculty colleague in cases of staffing or role changes
  • Notify Exhibit.Online@utas.edu.au if the Site is to be closed, to ensure proper archiving
