Who can create an Exhibit Omeka S online exhibition?

Any University of Tasmania researcher, staff member or PhD student with current UTAS online credentials can submit a proposal to the University Library to create an Exhibit Omeka S online exhibition.

 

Is an Exhibit Omeka S online exhibition recognised as a reportable research output?

Websites are listed under Curated or Produced Substantial Public Exhibitions & Events (K3) in the CALE Non-traditional Research Outputs (NTRO) .

University researchers are encouraged to discuss K3 category requirements with their College's Research Output Officer prior to submitting their Exhibit Omeka S site proposal.

 

Can Exhibit Omeka S be used as a teaching and learning tool?

Yes, University academics, Colleges or Divisions wishing to use the platform for teaching and learning should submit a proposal form​.

The Library also welcomes interest from Tasmanian school teachers who may be interested in partnering with us to create online exhibitions using material from the University Cultural Collections.

 

What is the relationship of physical exhibitions to Exhibit Omeka S online exhibitions?

Exhibit Omeka S online exhibitions are created independent of physical exhibitions. Online-only exhibitions are encouraged. 

 

What is required of an Exhibit Omeka S online exhibition curator?

Site Curators are responsible for the planning, creating and overall management of their online exhibition. See Site Curator Role & Responsibilites for details.

 

Can UTAS students assist Site Curators develop and build Exhibit Omeka S sites?

Students with UTAS online credentials may assist in exhibition creation at the Site curator's discretion.

Site Curators are responsible for supervising students. 

 

What support is available for creating an Exhibit Omeka S online exhibition?

The Library offers Site Curators & users basic training, content advice and reviews the site prior to publishing.

Advanced help is available from the Omeka S User Manual and Omeka S community forums.

 

What does maintaining an Exhibit Omeka S online exhibition involve?

Annual review of the Exhibit Omeka S site and review after any major Omeka S upgrade.

Designate another person from the sponsoring department to continue in the maintenance role if/when you leave the University.

 

Do all Exhibit Omeka S sites have to use the UTAS theme? 

Yes, exhibitions hosted on the Exhibit Omeka S platform must use the Exhibit Omeka S UTAS theme template and apply University web content and editorial guidelines.

 

Does the University support Omeka.net, Omeka Classic or any other online exhibition software? 

No. only the Omkea S platform is supported by the Library. Contact the Library to explore options for migrating Omeka.net web exhibitions to the Exhbit Omeka S platform.

 

Are individual Exhibit Omeka S sites registered with Google Analytics?

Yes, the Library will register each Exhibit Omeka S site as part of the review and publishing process. The Library will provide GA reports to Site Curators on an annual basis. Site Curators may also request additional reports. 

 

How can I promote my Site?

The Site will be added to the University Exhibit webpage. Site curators can add their Site URL link to their College page and share via Social Media and via their email signature.
