Find books at UTAS and beyond

Looking for books?

Search the library catalogue from the library homepage or using the search box on the right. See the links at the bottom of this page for other library collections that contain items relevant to the visual arts.

Call numbers

Call numbers tell you where to find a book on the Library shelves.

Student browsing the library shelves

At UTAS we use the Library of Congress classification system. In the Library Catalogue the call numbers look like this:
RT 41 .P744 2009

On the spine of the book they look like this:

Each call number starts with a letter code for the broad subject area, then each line narrows the focus until you have a unique number for each title. Check the Studios tabs in this guide for suggested call numbers for your studio area. This link will help you to understand how the books are organised.

Document Delivery

Eligible users may request items that are not in UTAS Library collections.

Items requested should be related to the research and/or teaching functions at the University.

We use interlibrary loan (ILL) and commercial document suppliers to obtain loan items and articles.
